The leader of the world's 70 million Anglican Christians, Archbishop
Rowan Williams, has taken Western nations to task for neglecting
global poverty and "massaging" the threat of terrorism.
Never shy of controversy, Williams used his Christmas Day sermon on Saturday
to lambast the rich world for failing to make good progress on the U.N.
Millennium development goals.
The Lord that Rowan claims to represent - says:

Though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and
though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth
me nothing.
As far as "massaging the threat of terrorism"
- this is the command from the Lord that Rowan claims
to represent:

man the truth to his neighbour; execute the
judgment of truth and peace in your gates.

With 70 million followers - why isn't Rowan speaking that
which the Lord he claims to represent commands of him? [Eternal Life is at
stake]
Anyone can easily say that they are a Christian - but...

"The likelihood of a reduction by half of people living in abject poverty by
the year 2015 is not noticeably greater than it was four years ago," he said in
reference to one of the key goals during his address at Canterbury Cathedral.
"Some developed nations appear deeply indifferent to the goals agreed,"
he
added.
The UN listed
45 states that have temporarily lost their right to vote in the General Assembly
because they owe more than two years? worth of dues. Another seven states,
equally overdue with their payments, were allowed to retain their vote.

That so many are
in arrears suggests that Member States, while willing to participate in the UN,
are not taking their obligations seriously. They seem to want to benefit
from the world forum while contributing little in resources to sustain it.
Back to Rowan:
The terrorism threat was a legitimate concern,
but was being manipulated by
some and had helped sideline poverty issues, Williams argued.
[Such as the 'Oil for Food' program?
the program that was credited with preventing widespread
starvation? [Corruption on an unprecedented scale that was revealed - because of
the war]
"It is all too easy to be more interested in other matters -- not least the
profound anxieties about security that are at the moment so pervasive, massaged
by various forces in our public life in the West," he said, without elaborating.
How should Rowan respond to these?

Williams urged Britain to use its leadership of the G8 group of
industrialised nations in 2005 to start a new war on poverty.

He noted the plethora of ideas floated by government figures and others to
reduce debt, bring down medicine prices, promote grassroots credit schemes, and
make trade rules fairer.
"Despite the vision of some in the political world and beyond, the will to
take this forward seems to be in short supply," he said, urging Christians to
display "generous anger".
Where was that same anger while Saddam and his regime were
filling hundreds of mass graves?
One of the most high-profile British critics of the Iraq war, the archbishop
reminded his listeners of a quote in a recent TV documentary that argued the
United States and Britain had deliberately played up security fears to bolster
their power.

Williams' message followed a searing Christmas Eve address by Britain's
leading Roman Catholic, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor. He asked why so much
money was being spent on conflict in the Middle East rather than global poverty.
