Kofi Annan Addresses 'Islamophobia'

Press Release SG/SM/9637 HR/4802 PI/1627

SECRETARY-GENERAL, ADDRESSING HEADQUARTERS SEMINAR ON CONFRONTING ISLAMOPHOBIA,

STRESSES IMPORTANCE OF LEADERSHIP, TWO-WAY INTEGRATION, DIALOGUE

He Also Underscores Need to Unlearn Entrenched Stereotypes, Widespread Habit of Xenophobia

xen?o?phobe:

A person unduly fearful or contemptuous of that which is foreign, especially of strangers or foreign peoples.

Following is the text of Secretary-General Kofi Annan?s address to the Department of Public Information (DPI) seminar, ?ConfrontingIslamophobia:  Education for Tolerance and Understanding?, in New York, today, 7 December 2004:

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the United Nations, as you heard, for the second in our series on ?Unlearning Intolerance?.  I would like to thank Professor Nasr, one of the world?s leading Islamic scholars, for joining us today.  I am grateful as well to the other panellists for their participation.

When a new word enters the language, it is often the result of a scientific advance or a diverting fad.  But when the world is compelled to coin a new term to take account of increasingly widespread bigotry, that is a sad and troubling development.  Such is the case with Islamophobia.

Funny.  Annan addresses "Islamophobia"  - but not the teachings of beheadings

004.101 When ye travel through the earth, there is no blame on you if ye shorten your prayers, for fear the Unbelievers May attack you: For the Unbelievers are unto you open enemies.

005.051 O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends

047.004 Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks. [Behead them]

How "sad and troubling" is it for Kofi Annan not to acknowledge that such teachings that Incite Mass Genocide ?

Is Kofi Annan a 'closet' muslim? It sure seems like it

The word seems to have emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s.  But the phenomenon dates back centuries.  Today, the weight of history and the fallout of recent developments have left many Muslims around the world feeling aggrieved and misunderstood, concerned about the erosion of their rights and even fearing for their physical safety.  So the title of this series is very appropriate:  there is much to unlearn.

There is a need to unlearn the stereotypes that have become so entrenched in so many minds and so much of the media.

Islam and Christianity cannot reside together - without there being war - no matter what the media or world leaders preach:

009.004 (But the treaties are) not dissolved with those Pagans with whom ye have entered into alliance and who have not subsequently failed you in aught, nor aided any one against you. So fulfil your engagements with them to the end of their term.

009.005 But when the forbidden months are past [when the 'treaties' expire}  then fight and slay the Pagans ''''wherever'''' ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem of war.

002.193 And fight them on until there is no more Tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah.  [Islam denies the Son of God]

1Jo 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

2Jo 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine [of Christ], receive him not  [Mixing Islam within non-Muslim societies is a SURE recipe for much bloodshed!]

Islam is often seen as a monolith {which is why it is SO IMPORTANT to let allah speak for himself - he calls ALL 'moderate' Muslims liars - on a level that a child can understand - thereby leaving all of the 'wise men' without excuse], when it is as diverse as any other tradition, with followers running the gamut from modernizers to traditionalists.  Some commentators talk as if the world of Islam was more or less identical with the Arab world -- whereas in fact a majority of Muslims are not native Arabic speakers.  The most populous Muslim countries are to be found in non-Arab Asia -- from Indonesia through South-East and South Asia to Central Asia, Iran, and Turkey, which of course is both in Asia and Europe.

There are many predominantly Muslim countries in sub-Saharan Africa, and large minorities of Muslims are to be found on every continent. {What does any of that have to do with a book that preaches Mass genocide?]

Islam?s tenets are frequently distorted and taken out of context, with particular acts or practices being taken to represent or to symbolize a rich and complex faith.  Some claim that Islam is incompatible with democracy, or irrevocably hostile to modernity and the rights of women.  And in too many circles, disparaging remarks about Muslims are allowed to pass without censure, with the result that prejudice acquires a veneer of acceptability. The Koran calls Kofi Annan a liar:

You be the judge - Does it?.....

004.095 Not equal are those believers who sit at home and receive no hurt, and those who strive and fight in the cause of Allah with their goods and their persons. Allah hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit at home. But those who strive and fight hath He distinguished above those who sit at home by a special reward.

002.216 Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing [war] which is good for you and that ye love a thing [peace] which is bad for you?

009.039 Unless ye go forth, He will punish you with a grievous penalty, and put others in your place.

004.101 When ye travel through the earth, there is no blame on you if ye shorten your prayers, for fear the Unbelievers May attack you: For the Unbelievers are unto you open enemies.

009.123 O ye who believe! fight the unbelievers who gird you about, and let them find firmness in you.

047.004 Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks. [Behead them]

The Koran calls Kofi Annan - a liar!

Stereotypes also depict Muslims as opposed to the West, despite a history not only of conflict but also of commerce and cooperation, and of influencing and enriching each other?s art and science.  European civilization would not have advanced to the extent it did had Christian scholars not benefited from the learning and literature of Islam in the Middle Ages, and later.

2Jo 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine [of Christ], receive him not

Isa 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this Word, it is because there is no light in them.

There is also a need to unlearn the habit of xenophobia.

If the young are taught to slay others who don't believe as they do - then bloodshed is what to expect - especially within societies that hold to the faith of the Son of God.

Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. [The same goes for nations]

Fear of the ?other? is so widespread and ferocious that we may be tempted to think of it as an immutable attribute of the human animal.  But people are not hard-wired for prejudice.  In some cases they are taught to hate.  In others, they are manipulated into it by leaders who exploit fear, ignorance or feelings of weakness.

002.065 And well ye knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath: We said to them: "Be ye apes, despised and rejected." [The Jews and the Christians]

005.060 Say: "Shall I point out to you something much worse than this, (as judged) by the treatment it received from Allah? those who incurred the curse of Allah and His wrath, those of whom some He transformed into apes and swine, those who worshipped evil;- these are (many times) worse in rank, and far more astray from the even path!"

007.166 When in their insolence they transgressed (all) prohibitions, We said to them: Be ye apes, despised and rejected."

005.051 O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends

The New Testament [given to ALL flesh] teaches:

Rom 10:12 There is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

The pressures of living together with people of different cultures and different beliefs from one?s own are real, especially in a world of intense economic competition and in which there have been sudden influxes of immigrants, as has happened in Europe over the last generation or two.  But that cannot justify demonization or the deliberate use of fear for political purposes.  That only deepens the spiral of suspicion and alienation.

Unlearning intolerance is in part a matter of legal protection.  The right to freedom of religion -- and to be free from discrimination based on religion -- is long enshrined in international law, from the UN Charter to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and other instruments.  Such standards have been incorporated into the laws of many countries.  United Nations special rapporteurs continue to monitor the exercise and infringements of this right, and to recommend ways to combat Islamophobia and other forms of racism and intolerance.

Why aren't they putting these teachings upon their tables to be analyzed?

004.101 When ye travel through the earth, there is no blame on you if ye shorten your prayers, for fear the Unbelievers May attack you: For the Unbelievers are unto you open enemies.

009.123 O ye who believe! fight the unbelievers who gird you about, and let them find firmness in you.

047.004 Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks. [Behead them]

What does Kofi Annan's law say about such commands? given straight from the mouth of Islam's allah?  What about - "intolerance is in part a matter of legal protection .  The right to freedom of religion"  ???

What about  "to be free from discrimination based on religion -- is long enshrined in international law  ???

They promise liberty, but they themselves are the servants of corruption.

But laws and norms are just a starting point.

Any strategy to combat Islamophobia must depend heavily on education -- not just about Islam, but about all religions and traditions, so that myths and lies can be seen for what they are.

009.030 The Jews call 'Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah's curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth!

009.005 fight and slay the Pagans ''''wherever'''' ye find them

047.004 Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks. [Cut their throats!]

Hypocrisy is anything whatever may deceive the cleverest and most penetrating man, but the least wide-awake of children recognizes it, and is revolted by it, however ingeniously it may be disguised.

We must prevent the media and Internet from being used to spread hatred, while of course safeguarding freedom of opinion and expression.

There is a crucial need for leadership.  Public authorities should not only condemn Islamophobia, but ensure that law enforcement and other practices follow through on pledges of non-discrimination.

Those who speak up to point out that the teachings of the Koran are deadly - Takes COURAGE - just for the simple fact that the Koran DOES command the death of those who do:

005.033 THE PUNISHMENT of those who '''wage war''' against Allah and His Messenger IS: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet. [Islam does not allow for 'Freedom of Speech']

In many countries of Christian tradition, large Muslim communities are a relatively new phenomenon.  Integration is a two-way street.  Immigrants must adjust to their new societies -- and societies must adjust, too.  Hosts and immigrants alike need to understand each other?s expectations and responsibilities.  And they need to be able, where necessary, to act against common threats such as extremism.

004.094 O ye who believe! When ye  ''''go abroad''''   in the cause of Allah, investigate carefully, and say not to any one who offers you a salutation: "Thou art none of a believer!" Therefore carefully investigate.

004.101 When ye travel through the earth, there is no blame on you if ye shorten your prayers, for fear the Unbelievers May attack you: For the Unbelievers are unto you open enemies.

004.100 He who forsakes his home in the cause of Allah, finds in the earth Many a refuge, wide and spacious.

008.067 It is not fitting for a prophet that he should have prisoners of war [slay them] until he hath thoroughly subdued the land. [Treason - in all non-Muslim nations]

009.029 Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued. [Violent Discrimination?] These commands violate Kofi Annan's 'international laws'

002.193 And fight them on until there is no more Tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah.

How does Kofi Annan figure they'll "be able, where necessary, to act against common threats such as extremism." without confronting the Koran?

Jam 3:12 No fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

It is RETARDED to preach against violent religious discrimination - while at the same time - defending it. [If people weren't being slaughtered - this whole situation would be hilarious! - simply because they have set themselves as kings of the whole world]

Interfaith dialogue can be useful.  But problems are not caused by the similarities among religions that are typically celebrated in such dialogue.  They are caused by other similarities -- the propensity of human beings to favour their own groups, beliefs and cultures at the expense of others.

Islamic insurgents behead family in India

Jul. 26, 2004

A 65-year-old man and his son and daughter were beheaded and his wife severely wounded in an overnight raid on a village in India's Jammu-Kashmir state by suspected Islamic insurgents, police said Monday.

Now where did those ''''insurgents'''' get such an idea?

Interfaith activities could take a more practical direction, building on the examples of those communities in which different peoples come together regularly in professional associations, or on the sporting field, or in other social settings.  Such day-to-day contacts carry less of the artificiality of established dialogue, and can be especially useful in demystifying the ?other?.

Without dealing with 'the cause' - the bloodshed will continue. The more 'the cause' spreads - the more there will be bloodshed.

[It doesn't take a genius to figure it out]

An honest look at Islamophobia must also acknowledge the policy context.  The historical experience of Muslims includes colonialism and domination by the West, either direct or indirect. Resentment is fed by the unresolved conflicts in the Middle East, by the situation in Chechnya, and by atrocities committed against Muslims in the former Yugoslavia.  The reaction to such events can be visceral, bringing an almost personal sense of affront.  But we should remember that these are political reactions -- disagreements with specific policies.  All too often, they are mistaken for an Islamic reaction against Western values [''the Great Satan''], sparking an anti-Islamic backlash.

Albanian Muslims provoked the Serbs into war during the 80s - chasing Serbs out of Serbian lands, bloodshed and burning their churches and houses.

The New York Times dated Nov. 1, 1987

On-the-scene dispatch by reporter David Binder:

"A young army conscript of ethnic Albanian origin shot up his barracks, killing four sleeping Slavic bunkmates and wounding six others."

"The army says it has uncovered hundreds of subversive ethnic Albanian cells in its ranks." [groups of 'extremist' Muslims]

"Ethnic Albanians [Muslims] in the government have manipulated public funds and regulations to take over land belonging to Serbs."

"Slavic Orthodox churches have been attacked, and flags been torn down. Wells have been poisoned and crops burned. Slavic boys have been knifed, and some ethnic Albanians have been told by their elders to rape Serbian girls."

"The goal of the radical nationalists among them, one said in an interview, is an 'ethnic Albania that includes western Macedonia, southern Montenegro, part of southern Serbia, Kosovo and Albania itself.' That includes large chunks of the republics that make up the southern half of Yugoslavia."

"Other ethnic Albanian separatists admit to a vision of a greater Albania governed from Pristina in southern Yugoslavia rather than Tirana, the capital of neighboring Albania." [an Islamic nation]

"As Slavs flee the protracted violence, Kosovo is becoming what ethnic Albanian nationalists have been demanding for years, and especially strongly since the bloody rioting by ethnic Albanians in Pristina in 1981 -- an 'ethnically pure' Albanian region, a 'Republic of Kosovo' in all but name."

"The violence, a journalist in Kosovo said, is escalating to 'the worst in the last seven years.'"

"'We've already lost western Macedonia to the Albanians,' said a member of the Yugoslav party presidium, explaining that the ethnic minority had driven the Slavic Macedonians out of the region."

"Last summer, the authorities in Kosovo said they documented 40 ethnic Albanian attacks on Slavs in two months."

"In one incident, Fadil Hoxha, once the leading politician of ethnic Albanian origin in Yugoslavia, joked at an official dinner in Prizen last year that Serbian women should be used to satisfy potential ethnic Albanian rapists. After his quip was reported this October, Serbian women in Kosovo protested, and Mr. Hoxha was dismissed from the Communist Party."

"Officials in Belgrade view the ethnic Albanian challenge as imperiling the foundations of the multinational experiment called federal Yugoslavia, which consists of six republics and two provinces."

"High-ranking officials have spoken if the 'Lebanonizing' of their country and have compared its troubles to the strife in Northern Ireland."

"The federal secretary for national defense, Fleet Adm. Branko Mamula, told the army's party organization in September of efforts by ethnic Albanians to subvert the armed forces. 'Between 1981 and 1987 a total of 216 illegal organizations with 1,435 members of Albanian nationality were discovered in the Yugoslav People's Army,' he said. Admiral Mamula said ethnic Albanian subversives had been preparing for 'killing officers and soldiers, poisoning food and water, sabotage, breaking into weapons arsenals and stealing arms and ammunition, desertion and causing flagrant nationalist incidents in army units.'"

"While 200,000 Serbs and Montenegrins still live in the province, they are scattered and lack cohesion. In the last seven years, 20,000 of them have fled the province, often leaving behind farmsteads and houses, for the safety of the Slavic north."

Even after the U.N. NATO and the Clinton administration won the war for the Albanian Muslims - it still wasn't enough:

Back to Kofi Annan's statement:

Efforts to combat Islamophobia must also contend with the question of terrorism and violence carried out in the name of Islam.  Islam should not be judged by the acts of extremists who deliberately target and kill civilians.  The few give a bad name to the many, and this is unfair.  All of us must condemn those who carry out such morally reprehensible acts, which no cause can justify.  {The Koran justifies the 'extremists']

Muslims themselves, especially, should speak out, as so many did following the 11 September attacks on the United States, and show a commitment to isolate those who preach or practice violence and to make it clear that these are unacceptable distortions of Islam. [allah has FAR more authority than Kofi Annnan does - with the Islamic world]  Indeed, it is essential that solutions ReadWriteExecuteUsecome from within Islam itself -- perhaps in the Muslim tradition of ?ijtihad?, or free interpretation.  Such open inquiry, such openness to what is good and bad, in their cultures and others, may well offer a very useful path on this question and others. [Cannot be done without confronting the commands of the Koran]

Islamophobia is at once a deeply personal issue for Muslims, a matter of great importance to anyone concerned about upholding universal values, and a question with implications for international harmony and peace.  We should not underestimate the resentment and sense of injustice felt by members of one of the world?s great religions, cultures and civilizations.  [A religion that GREATLY OFFENDS ALL of Christianity - by calling the Son of God an abomination} 019.089 ] And we must make the re-establishment of trust among people of different faiths and cultures our highest priority.  Otherwise, discrimination will continue to taint many innocent lives, and distrust might make it impossible to move ahead with our ambitious international agenda of peace, security and development.

We live in one world.  We need to understand and respect each other, live peacefully together and live up to the best of our respective traditions.  That is not as easy as we might like it to be.  But that is all the more reason to try harder, with all our tools and all our will.

"Islamophobia" and the Reality of Islamic Terror

FrontPageMagazine

Dec 16, 2004

Last week Kofi Annan presided over a UN seminar on ?Islamophobia,? explaining with a straight face: ?When the world is compelled to coin a new term to take account of increasingly widespread bigotry -- that is a sad and troubling development. Such is the case with ?Islamophobia.? The word seems to have emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Today, the weight of history and the fallout of recent developments have left many Muslims around the world feeling aggravated and misunderstood, concerned about the erosion of their rights and even fearing for their physical safety.?

The focus, not unexpectedly, stayed mostly on the aggrieved, misunderstood Muslims, with no questions raised about the Islamic roots of jihad terrorism. Nor was there any discussion of the compatibility of Islam with universally accepted ideas of human rights, as embodied in the UN?s own 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Islamic world has seen fit to formulate two major responses to this document: the 1981 Universal Islamic Declaration of Human Rights and the 1990 Cairo Declaration on Human Rights in Islam. Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which we owe to the courageous Charles Malik of Lebanon, states: ?Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief?? You will find no analogous guarantee of the freedom to change one?s religion in either of the Islamic declarations: indeed, Islamic law mandates the death penalty for those who leave Islam.

rGroupOther

What?s more, the Cairo declaration states: ?Everyone shall have the right to advocate what is right, and propagate what is good, and warn against what is wrong and evil according to the norms of Islamic Shari?ah.? If Sharia is the norm, women?s rights as well as those of non-Muslims will be severely restricted.

These two documents were not written by ?Islamophobes,? but by some of the foremost Muslim thinkers in the world. But the world is not supposed to notice: that was made clear again this week by the Council on American Islamic Relations? predictably venomous reaction to some observations by former CIA official Bruce Tefft at the Canadian branch of the Simon Wiesenthal Center. CAIR objected to statements by Tefft such as ?Islamic terrorism is based on Islam as revealed through the Qur?an?; ?To pretend that Islam has nothing to do with September 11 is to willfully ignore the obvious and to forever misinterpret events?; and ?There is no difference between Islam and Islamic fundamentalism, which is a totalitarian construct.? The Islamic advocacy group called on the Wiesenthal center ?to condemn these Islamophobic remarks in the strongest possible terms. Characterizing Islam and its revealed text as promoting terrorism can only lead to increased anti-Muslim prejudice and intolerance.?

What CAIR keeps demanding - is that everyone be quiet about what their Koran preaches:

009.005 fight and slay the Pagans ''''wherever'''' ye find them

008.067 It is not fitting for a prophet that he should have prisoners of war [slay them] until he hath thoroughly subdued the land. [Treason]

002.216 Fighting is prescribed for you

009.039 Unless ye go forth, He will punish you

047.004 Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks. [Cut their throats]

These commands are straight from the Koran.  CAIR vehemently denies them. They don't want the truth told - because they know  those teachings are shameful!

If those commands were Holy - they'd have power - containing righteous words that CAN NOT be condemned - Because The True Word of God has that kind of Power!

File VersionsWarning: Restoring

?As an organization that says it is committed to ?fostering tolerance and understanding,?? CAIR fulminated, ?the Simon Wiesenthal Center must immediately repudiate all Islamophobic rhetoric and hold its Canadian office accountable for failing to challenge the speaker?s hate-filled views.?

That is precisely why it is better to confront CAIR with the teachings of their own Koran! There is NO defense for such vicious teachings!

Since this is all about ?fostering tolerance and understanding,? CAIR could go a long way toward doing so by answering a few questions itself:

1. What steps have you taken to keep jihad terrorists from ?characterizing Islam and its revealed text as promoting terrorism?? In light of the fact that many Muslims advocate jihad as warfare against unbelievers, and base their arguments on the Qur?an and Sunnah, it isn?t as if Tefft invented this connection himself. So what are you doing to refute it at its actual source, which is within the Islamic community worldwide?

2. Do you deny that there was any actual connection between Islam and September 11? What, then, do you make of Osama bin Laden?s own statements to the contrary? Please provide, for the reassurance of the American people, a detailed refutation of Osama?s Islamic arguments, showing us how you keep such ideas from spreading among American Muslims.

3. Please explain the difference that you see between Islam and Islamic fundamentalism. Please explain how you intend to stop the spread of Qur?anic literalism in the Islamic community, and how you intend to blunt the force among Muslims of such verses as 9:29, 9:5, and many others.

These are the only important questions when ?Islamophobia? is equated with examining the real source of jihad terrorism. But they went unasked at the UN seminar ? in which CAIR representatives participated.

It is unlikely that the free world can host these whitewashes and leave such questions unasked while remaining free for long.

Hypocrisy is anything whatever may deceive the cleverest and most penetrating man, but the least wide-awake of children recognizes it, and is revolted by it, however ingeniously it may be disguised.
